The wind is blowing; the waves are high; it’s the middle of the night; and you are going nowhere fast. This is the human experience of the disciples in our scripture. How often isn’t it our human experience? To make it worse, they are following Jesus’ directions, yet Jesus is nowhere to be seen. When we find ourselves in such situations are we really battling all alone? Jesus appears in the most unlikely of manners and says, “I am. Do not be afraid.”
